Bohemian Luxe!

Over-the-top designer Custo Barcelona was resisting recession sending luxurious gypsy chic-like designs down the runway this F/W season! Backstage at the Promenade was a modelizers heaven with a bevy of gorgeous gals and hot boys ready to parade the eccentric garments. Renowned models such as Ikeleine, Erin, and newcomer Tao all walked in the smooth running show. It was a bittersweet end to our fashion week at MTC! Styling by Bernat Buscato.

Julian Louie's Sophomore Collection

Our sister company, Mau-Mau Studios, produced the Julian Louie F/W09 show on Thursday at Drive-In Studios. Below is the finally run through!

Sophie Theallet Gets Personal About Casting

Sophie Theallet With A Navajo Edge!

Sophie Theallet brought her French sass and feminine ways to fashion week this season while impressing show-goers and fashionistas alike with her collection, inspired by Native Americans and a dream she once had. The models, clad in silk and velvet, rich colored dresses, wore moccasin inspired boots and dramatically sauntered down the runway. In attendance was Kanye West, along with all the important editors (Carine Roitfeld, Andre Leon Talley), journalist (Suzy Menkes), buyers, etc! The casting for the show was very intensive in order to find the right look. The end result was a diverse, feminine, sultry group. Jay @ Code closed the show with a dramatic performance that gave us chills!

Akiko Ogawa ROCKS Bryant Park!

The Akiko Ogawa show rocked the Bryant Park tents last night. The stunning runway diva Chanel Iman opened and closed the co-ed show, where the lineup was carefully selected and full of feminine, youthful women and androgynous men. The designs are very downtown chic with a modern rock & roll edge. The collection included gorgeous woven and ombre-dyed jackets with a jagged cut out asymmetrical design at the bottom. There were satin jodfers matched with 7” platform leather belted boots with mirrored heels and topped off with a high waisted darted and well-tailored blouse. The styling was outstanding thanks to the brilliant Patti Wilson. Also the make up and hair were beyond chic thanks to Peter Grey and Kabuki. The gracious designer, Akiko Ogawa, was all smiles throughout the show (and so were we thanks to no model drama!).

Marc Bouwer Glams It Up For F/W09!

Marc Bouwer uses technology to showcase his glamorous collection with a virtual show online. The shoot took place Friday February 13 @ his lofty penthouse studio in Chelsea. With short notice from our sister company Mau Mau Studios (who Produced the show) we were signed on to find the glamazon who would bring Marc's collection to life. When Monique @ Muse walked through the doors for a go see, she sashayed down the runway in Marc’s gowns and we knew right then and there that she was the perfect girl! The collection is full of 1940’s glamour, taffeta, ruffles, warm hues and a saucy hint of bright neon’s (like the ultra cute pink with iridescent blue faux fur matched with a blue plunging neckline cocktail dress). The designer is a master at sheering and draping. Slipping into any of Marc's dresses will have you ready for the Red carpet and feeling FABULOUS!

Bryant Park is Valentine to NYC Fashionistas

This Valentines Day, forget the chocolate's, NYC fashionistas attend the Bryant Park tents, as the 2nd day of fashion week sends more amazing trends down the runways. Eric Kim, designer of Monarchy, has always focused on the construction of his garments and gets much of his inspiration from architecture. As I watched his Fall 09 collection come down the runway, it was apparent how much time went into these detailed and structured garments. Monarchy’s collection had equestrian and military inspiration. There were a few edgy pieces including the leather jackets, which had an immense amount of zipper detailing and asymmetrical lines. Eric also included some fantastic capes, which had beautiful draping that were just gliding off the model’s bodies. The guys were fully equipped with their riding boots and well-tailored military jackets. And as for Eric Kim, he was relaxed and ready to deliver his collection to NYC!

DAVID DELFIN SETS THE TONE FOR FASHION

David Delfin Fashion Show

Eyebeam was the place to be today as this first day of fashion week kicks off. David DelFin from Madrid premiered his Fall 09 collection today in Chelsea and it was a hit. He really nailed his collection down to every detail. He played with fabrics and textures and each look was completed with Doc Martins for the men and Loubatin’s for the ladies. The collection was filled with different hues of black and white and some pieces wit a pop of red. David was very innovative and is definitely a designer to keep your eyes on. Some statement pieces were see through stripe leggings, pants and a pencil skirt. He also glammed it up with a men’s sequin blazer and a gorgeous black sequin evening dress during the finale. All of David’s’ hard work really paid off because he had an amazing collection and this was truly the right way to kick off fashion week. And of course lets not forget the Fabulous lineUp of gorgeous moddels thanks to MTC!

Fashion Week Starts a Day Early!

Jillian Lewis debuted her fall ‘09 collection today at the Tela Design Studio. Most of the models showed up on time, but no thanks to Calvin Klein holding girls hostage @ his casting, an hour until the presentation we were still chasing down 2 girls (who later were grabbed by their hair and were rushed through hair and makeup!) The Tela Design studio was the perfect space for an intimate viewing of Jillian’s collection. Guests sipped mimosas, chowed on cucumber sandwiches and brownies while mingling around the industrial themed presentation. The one stand out piece of the collection was a black pleated coat with Victorian detail, FABULOUS! And just like the rest of the clothes that Jillian designs, it was impeccably made. Kudos to Jillan, what a great start to Fall Fashion Week!

Reality Bites (NYC)!

Move over, Reality show designer is about get her piece of the pie!
We just signed on to do the casting for the Jillian Lewis
presentation(you know the only gal on season 4 of Project Runway with a real future in fashion). I’ve got to say that I love the way this young designer has handled the attention brought forth by the show, while many of the previous contestants fell off the face of the planet or are
using their 15min of fame to sell it till it stinks. Jillian strikes me
as a well rounded, educated designer who’s objective is to deliver
beautifully woven knits and well constructed garments that make a woman
feel gorgeous!

Elite has a Shindig at Saks

Amidst all the hard work to get ready for Fashion Week, people are taking time out of their busy schedules to celebrate and promote keeping New York fashion fabulous! The other night, I attended the Elite and Saks Fifth Avenue party for Rag and Bone and Vena Cava at the flagship Saks on 5th. It was a fun, “sceney” event filled with models, agents, designers, etc. The space was hardly big enough for everyone, although the music was great (Stephanie stepped off the runway for a minute to show of her talents on the turntables and rocked the house with fresh grooves) and the drinks poured freely (minus running out of Grey Goose replaced with white wine). Mingling with everyone, I barely recognized Coco Rocha with her new red tresses. LOVED IT! All in all, it was an enjoyable time and a good start to the F/W fashion season.

"ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST"

With the economy crisis, everyone is effected, especially the multi-billion dollar fashion industry (including a designer friend of ours who had the shaggy carpet of investors pulled out from under him and had to cancel his show). With Fashion Week just around the corner, many prominent designers are cutting back on expenses and presenting in alternate spaces. Venues at the Bryant
Park
tents cost between $25,000 and $50,000, plus there is the cost of models, invitations, show producers, etc. Renowned designers Betsey Johnson, Donna Karen, and Vera Wang opted to forgo their lavish runway productions at Bryant Park this season. Marc Jacobs cut his show guest list by nearly half and cancelled his fabulous Fashion Week after-party.

While most are slashing their budgets, young talent this season may reap the benefits. Retailers will be hunting for new and fresh styles that have the potential to bring customers back into stores!

Color Me Custo

We are thrilled to be casting again for Custo Barcelona!! The Spanish label was created in the 1980s after brothers Custo and David Dalmau, went on a round-the-world motorcycle trip and came back impressed by the Califonia lifestyle. Influenced by the “psychedelic surf wear” the collection is infused with bright colors and unique illustrations. Custo Barcelona truly stands out with an individual voice that has yet to be equaled.
