Happy B-Day Chanel Iman!

Today, Chanel Iman turns 18....again!!!!
We first met the gracious young beauty when she was just starting out. It was in Los Angeles back when she was around 13 or 14 y/o. We placed her in one of her first runway shows for Custo Barcelona. Now, at still such a young age, she has already graced the covers of several top mags, walked in the hottest shows, and is adored by the fashion Gods. The momentum hasn't slowed down for this top billing model, everyone wants a piece of her!
....She's only just begun! Happy Birthday from all of us at MTC Casting!

We are so excited to announce that our friend and client Sophie Theallet, was crowned the winner @ the Vogue CFDA Fashion Fund last night here in NYC.
The French-born, New York-based designer, who started her own label three years ago after 14 years @ Azzedine Alaia and Jean Paul Gaultier, won the $200,000 prize which will be used towards developing her company. She presented her third collection at New York Fashion Week in September, a Marrakesh-inspired range of soft tunics and dresses for spring/summer 2010.

Devine Spot.

Last Thursday night the MTC crew stepped out for drinks and o'deurves and stepped into sacred territory with host Rodney Prince. We migrated east over the bridge to the latest watering hole in Brooklyn ...yes, Brooklyn. The divine spot is appropriately named “Deity”, and chef Cesar Ramirez is serving downtown BK residents a heavenly taste of his fusion cuisine. The space is chic, inviting, and well lit. Located on Atlantic Ave, and surrounded by cute recognizable shops, Deity was once a neighborhood synagogue, now converted into a trendy "supper club". Check it out here.

LINDSEY ... BOOK HER, IF YOU CAN!!!

Check out this baby @ Marilyn Agency, she's 16 years old, cute as button from a Chanel Haute Couture Collection, working her stilettos (although she needs work on her walk, but it shouldn't pose a problem), Lindsey was serving it to my digital "Olympus Stylus 1010" like there's no tomorrow!
Considering getting an option on her? GOOD LUCK! Meisel is demanding to keep her editorial work, "under the radar", so maybe (soon) she'll become one of his iconic almost impossible to get superstars! Will we see Lindsey in Italian and American Vogue soon? What's next, will it be Prada, Gucci, or Calvin? ... We only hope that Lindsey keeps her nice & fresh attitude and not become a *****, which will be tough!

Curtain call for Bryant Park?

Shows for this upcoming season are already grabbing spots. What is there to expect this year, as it is rumored to finally be the last show season at the Tents. Buzz is building around twin designers, Dee and Ricky. With their recent collaborations, will we see them on the schedule this year? Will Marc Jacobs be successful in throwing the ultimate recession-proof after party this fall? Will it be the return of runway shows or will designers opt for the recession-savvy presentations? We can be sure that celebrities will be show-hopping like never before, for this (again) is supposedly the “last” season at Bryant Park, mainly due to complaints from the Park officials. It’s rumored that the shows will be held at the Lincoln Center complex beginning in 2010. However, this year shows will run from September 9th to 17th, 2009. Mark your calendar!

"Remember The Time" Michael Jackson

This Tuesday, July 7th
The world will pay tribute in the memory of Michael Jackson at The Staple Center in honor of the legacy he leaves behind.
MJ was a master at dance, vocals and stage presence.
Here at MTC Casting we have found he inspired us in many different ways.
From fashion, to the glitter glove, the socks and little cigarette pants.
He also inspired us to share and be charitable with others who need it.

We would love to know in which way he has touched you? ("Not literally" lol)

JV - MILAN DAY ZERO

6:30AM call time! 11 models on time, the rest of them are arriving little by little … everyone is tired, a few models are hangover, a few didn’t sleep at all! Straight from the scenes of fashionable Milan …
8:15 - Lyle, Baptiste, Cole and Lenz are M.I.A! Nowhere to be found … They don’t answer their cell phones (including some of their agents) and I'm texting their agents in NYC … Dave at Red is up & running at 2:30AM NY time (God bless him for that!) but Lyle is still M.I.A. Last to arrive is Baptiste at 8:45, right on time for rehearsals (maldito!). He apologizes, his 6 alarms didn’t do the trick. It’s all good! We are all in the house and ready to go!

Stephan from “nine daughters and a stereo” in Colon is dethroning Lyle from opening last season. Lyle is closing and opening the finale.

+ 39.02 ... MILAN CALLING!

We’re heading to Milan for the men’s Runway shows, June 20th to 24th, and we’re already starting to receive model comp card packages ... Exciting!

Future, Why Not and 2morrow men are the first packages to be arrive.

The news:

It’s a sad day at Beatrice Model Management, as the “Back Bone” of the company Patrizia Wassermann has announced her departure and the birth of a new agency, ”I LOVE MODELS MANAGEMENT”. We can’t wait to see the guys they will rep.

We hear that after a nervous break down last season (that personally put us through hell), Ash @ Why Not is back! Last season is old news, we love Ash and wish him the best, and hope that he keeps it together this season! We know how tough this industry can be, especially for a kid his age.

ALSO: Ethan previously @ Beatrice, has switched agency and is now represented by Future. Finally, Michael T (who we booked directly from Success Models in Paris last season) is now with Why Not, which is a good catch for them!

We look forward to see Lukas K, Francisco L, Alban, Mark, Rob M, Gordie, Fletcher, Andreas C, Viggo J … and many more!

CFDA going Idol

Yesterday the COUNCIL OF FASHION DESIGNERS OF AMERICA (CFDA) announced the new award for the upcoming fabulous "Fashion Awards": The "POPULAR VOTE AWARD"!

Sponsored by L'Oréal Paris, for the first time in the History of Fashion, the public will be able to vote for their favorite American Designers through the web: http://www.wwd.com/popular-vote.

The winner will be Awarded on June 15th 2009 at the CFDA Fashion Awards.

It's a great and wonderful idea! Let's give to "el Pueblo" (que unido jamas sera' vencido) the option of election! Why not?

This really means the World is changing! In recent election we had our first Black-American President elected in the USA who also recently nominated Sonia "from le Block" as the fist Latina on the Supreme Court (about time!). Now the general public is voting for Fashion Awards! If we can just fix the damn economy, we will be alright!

We’ll hold our breath to find out who will get the prize!!!
& BTW, YES! You bet we’re going to vote!

KISS KISS

As if the swine flu hasn’t effected our lives enough, the CDC just slapped all fashionistas in the face with a recent statement – they have banned the beloved Double Air- Kiss. Apparently our European inspired greeting is a cataclysmic hotbed of germs. Rather than mourn this loss, shady industry bitches are loving the new attitude filled, but virus-free salutations. The sartorially inclined Simon Doonan told WWD “ It’s all about the Obama fist bump now, followed by a lot of hand washing.” Whether your emulating Mr. O, or using the flu hysteria as a excuse to be rude, we can all agree to air on the side of caution and say ADIOS to our chic salutation. . .at least, for now. . .TBD

Model As Muse

Last night the glitterati donned fashion’s most powerful labels and flocked to The Costume Institute’s ‘Model as Muse’ Gala to pay homage to whom else, but those that transform clothing to creation -- The Model. Honorary chair of the event, Marc Jacobs eloquently summed the impact of models on the industry when he spoke to WWD, “The idea of muses or model, whether it is someone you know or someone you have seen in an image, someone of your imagination or a creature of your own invention, is important to every designer and every collection.” What were once deemed brainless beauties are now celebrated as muse, inspiration, and oftentimes, celebrity. This illustrious status can be attributed to the Father of Couture, Charles Frederic Worth, who is considered responsible for the creation of the “model” as we know her today. She works 16 hour days, teetering in 5 inch heels, contorting herself at the photographers whim, all the while maintaining a stunning façade. It is her that young girls idolize, to whom designers turn when seeking inspiration, and that bring fashion to life. She is style, she is muse, she is model -- and we at MTC Casting are thrilled to discover her on the street.

Michelle Obama 's Designer DuJour

Our dear friend, Brooklyn based French designer Sophie Theallet, has whipped up such tasty designs that Michelle Obama has made Sophie her designer Du Jour. In a beautiful all-American beribboned shirtdress, the stylish First Lady unveiled a sculpture honoring abolitionist and women’s rights crusader Sojourner Truth. Sophie discovered her boon by accident today after taking a break from sewing and turning on the news to discover her art on the president's lovely wife. “It was the best gift—it blew my mind!” Théallet says. “I am really proud—it’s the first word that comes to me. I love the way she is, the way she talks…and she looks happy in that dress.” Sophie, who is known for her well crafted, luxurious designs is also known for displaying her runway collections on truly ethnic women.

BARNEY'S NEW YORK, A Thing of the Past?

Close sources to me have revealed that there’s a firing frenzy going down at the ultra posh Madison Avenue location, and that sales have come to a screeching halt. This isn’t Barney's first time around at the chopping block, which in 1996 filed chapter 11, to protect itself from it's creditors. Amidst rumors that the mega fashion emporium is in financial woes, todays comes an announcement that its parent company, Dubai based Istithmar, will pour a staggering 25 million dollars to help the now almost defunct retailer. Industry insiders are speculating that this latest attempt by the Dubai government owned Istithmar is just too little too late. It’s going to be a sad situation for all those New Yorkers who have loyally turned to this designer retail institution for their kicks, to one day turn the corner and see the doors @ 660 Madison Avenue with its famous red awnings no longer open.

On The Skin

My dear friend and talented photographer, Gigi Stoll, will present her latest art exhibit titled, “On The Skin” this Thurs @ a private viewing

Gigi Stoll, who is well known for her artistic nude photography, has also photographed such notable personalities like Carine Roitfeld, Cecilia Dean, Catherine Deneuve, Zac Posen and many more. Her work has been feature on V Mag, Vogue Paris, Vogue Japan, GQ Japan, Visionarie, and Paper Mag to name a few. She is no stranger to the camera, her career started many years ago in front of the lens, being photographed as a model. The San Antonio born beauty was scouted at a very young age by a Parisian modeling agency, and the rest is history. Her natural ability to capture the art of the human anatomy, meshed with a fashion forward edge, has made a very distinctive impact in the art scene.

MODEL / WHAT...... TBD!

There is a lot of talk and scrutiny lately on models, actors, singers / “designers.”
We happen to notice that models in specific are given much criticism for daring to venture their little brains and fantastic bodies out into other fields like fashion design. Who’s to say that they can’t become “designers” … or for that matter, anything else in a creative field such as Stylist, Make Up Artist, or Photographers? … After all, models are around clothing and creativity as much as anyone else in this industry. They understand fit and what makes a woman feel great. So wouldn’t a model turned designer be a natural progression? … Or would the opposite be a better option?
we applaud those who have crossed over like, Kate Moss, Rebecca Romijn, Irina Lazareanu, Carla Bruni, Helena Christensen, and of course Ms Banks!

Tyra Who? … Loca Please!

The Drag Race is OvA on RuPauls new hit show, “Drag race”. With all the tired shows on the main networks, we have to applaud Ru for bringing such an underground fierce production to the small screen, elevating the world of drag subculture to a whole new level.

Breaking it down:

BeBe Camarooooooooon snatched the Crown from the Ferocious Nina Flowers. The great opinionated Chanel became the cause of her own demise, and Rebecca ended up looking pretty… but not enough!

LOCA PLEASE America voted for you ... and so did we! We love you Ms Flowers!

Ru we wish you the best of luck on your second season, CAN’T WAIT!

Downtown L.A Fashion Week

Today we are giving you a 3 part blog on what L.A gave us!

LOS ANGELES WALK FOR ME
We are back from our trip to Los Angeles and so excited that spring is now here!
Casting for the DLAFW was just as expected: the models for the show were exclusively from L.A Models, as a contribution to benefit the MOCA. We saw at least 100 girls, all were beautiful (predictable in LA) but 90% of them could not walk if their life depended on it. I would think that with all the sidewalks in L.A these girls would get out of their little hybrids and start practicing. Thank GOD for the other 10% whom we cast for the show!

THE SHOW
The MOCA location is EVERYTHING! Before this event I had no idea that this place existed. Wow- Leanna Lewis did an amazing job at producing the show, which would rival those of NYFW. The real A-List ladies of L.A such as Marisa Tomei, Kelly Lynch, Lisa Rinna, Garcelle Beauvais, Janice Dickinson, Nicki Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Zoe Saldana, and Bai Ling to name a few, didn’t think twice about putting on the ritz, especially to be seen by the paparazzi on the red carpet (actually the event decide to do a black carpet?). My goodness there was fabulous drag queens, downtown street dancers, the amazing D.J Mark Lewis, a wicked FIERCE presentation by L.A based designer LOUIE VERDAD and photographer August Bradley, the fabulous DECADES 20th Century Glamour Fashion Show, and an after party all at the same event.
I had a blast! I want to thank all those who helped Leanna with their participated efforts to make this incredible art event benefiting the amazing MOCA come true! This is a new beginning for L.A. Special thanks to Leanna Lewis and her lovely crew, Jason Townsend, Petra Flannery and her assistant Marco Milani, Mark Lewis, Cameron Silver and all those wonderful people @ DECADES!

THE REAL AFTERPARTY
Later in true downtown L.A style, we headed over to the very “eastside art scene” club Bee’z Wax. Let me tell you the only place in L.A where people know how to walk the runway is here on this dance floor. Right around 1 am when the DL gay gangsters have had the right amount of liquor, they break out into an Xtravaganza’s VOGUE, and turn the club into a house ball, I loved it!

Here are pictures from a night of 20th Century L.A Glamour

I LOVE L.A

Last night we attended a fabulous birthday party for A-list party promoter Damon @ the ultra chic night club TEDDY’S inside the glorious Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The crowd was jamming to the Fresh music of Lady D.J. The Fabulous KELIS (who is being photographed by our dear friends, powerhouse photographer couple Roger Innes and Pieter Henket) made a special appearance to show off her latest accessory, a five-month pregnancy bump along with a short sexy stretch dress and leather boots. I had a chance to talk to her and she told me she would be dropping her new album this May. Also enjoying the party were songstress Appolonia who had her cocktail spilled into her beautiful bosom by actor Abel Soto, Madonna's ex boy-toy turned actor/model and now designer Tony Ward, hair stylist to the stars Jose Cantu and Mama MakeUp Joanne Gaire, P Diddy’s first man Mr. Bentley, the gorgeous Wendell @ Red Models, the fabulous Stylist Atiba Newsome, Lady Gaga’s Publicist Leah Landon, and many more celebrity whores.
Later we headed down to the very thuggish “Ballin” inside Fubar in West Hollywood to Indulge in male wickedness hosted by our friend and L.A nightlife advocate Hector Extravaganza. D.J Ben was spinning the hot tracks that made the designer labels slip right off our backs.
I LOVE L.A

LALA Land Bound!

We are off to LA! Downtown LA Fashion Week begins Friday and we will be casting for the show at the Geffen Contemporary in the MOCA. The event, produced by Leanna Lewis (who is married to the legendary DJ Mark Lewis...We love him!!) will not only celebrate fashion, but the proceeds benefit the MOCA. To kick off the event, Louis Verdad will show the Louver Collection, a series of dramatic installations photographed by August Bradley. The main event is a runway show in association with Los Angeles Magazine, presented by vintage aficionado Cameron Silver of Decades and hosted by actress, Rachel Griffith. Stylist, Sara Davenport will be behind the gorgeous looks as well as makeup by Christopher Del Castillo at MAC and Jonathan on hair. Models will show off gowns from top designers of the 20th century because we all know vintage couture and Hollywood mix better than martinis!

Bring on the hot weather and even hotter models!

LA Fashion Week...Is Anybody Going??

LA fashion week is just around the corner yet forever lost in the wake of the better-known fashion circuit of NY, London, Milan & Paris. With an economy as large as California, (according to the World Fact Book published by the CIA, if California were an independent state it would be the 10th largest economy in the world…and that’s is the lesson for today class!) how can it be that a place with so much wealth and commerce cannot get the rest of the world to notice and support its designers? These thoughts were solidified last season when Smashbox and IMG severed their fashion week partnership, Smashbox reps saying, “Nothing against [IMG], but I think that New York is their big focus and it’s difficult with everything they have going on all over the world. It would be hard for them to do L.A. on the level they do New York.”

When the rest of the country thinks of LA fashion, is all that comes to mind ripped jeans, flip flops, and bedazzled terry cloth playsuits? This could this be due to the closely intertwined entertainment industry overshadowing the fashion industry. There seems to be more attention on award show fashion coming from California.

There is the exception, like Richard Tyler, who was a fashion god in LA until he “sold out” to New York and corporate sponsorship (can LA catch a break!?) However, after taking a second look we discovered the caliber of designers like Tadashi, Louis Verdad and Eduardo Lucero is similar to designers showing in New York, yet they hardly get the attention they deserve. There seems to be so much potential to sell in California markets, maybe we should all start paying attention!

Spring Tease

This weekend was so nice, and with weather warming up all over the country, it was a pleasant tease of what’s to come. However, New Yorkers demonstrated spring fever symptoms differently. In a land where we are forced to endure horrible weather in designer clothes and uncomfortably awesome shoes, a weekend like this was an opportunity for us to let it all hang out.
People flooded the streets, restaurants open their doors, and patio diners welcomed the fresh spring air. The warm weather was a catalyst to jumpstart the economic downturn as I saw many people actually SHOPPING! Heavy coats come off and the streets become a proverbial catwalk of the latest spring wear, although in Chelsea it felt like Gay Pride with all the boys running around in their tank tops and daisy dukes.
I didn’t mind waiting outside for a table at Bubby’s in Tribeca on Sunday. Sipping my delicious bloody Mary, I enjoyed watching all the haute looking people brunching (including Tyra Banks and Joshua Jackson). I hope the weather stays this nice and New Yorkers can come out of hibernation for good!

UPDATE (it’s Monday Morning and it’s cold/rainy AGAIN!)

Peter Hidalgo: Refined

Peter Hidalgo makes a comeback back this season with a modern spin on a tailored vintage look in his Fall 09 collection. The talented designer presented his collection in Marion Greenberg's 57th Street Showroom. The stark and beautiful space was a stunning backdrop for the even more stunning collection from Peter Hidalgo.
Dominican Republic born, Hidalgo was the former design director of Miguel Adrover and launched his own label in 2006. His fall collection celebrates the hourglass figure of a woman, while being unforgivingly body contoured. In perhaps the cleverest interpretation of this seasons Recessionista chic; Peter created entire garments intricately patch-worked from beautiful fabric swatches sent to him by the Italian mills. Clever!

The Golden Age

Yesterday, I called my dear friend, super model Esther Cañadas to wish her a happy birthday. The gracefully aging beauty who once walked for Gucci, Chanel, McQueen, Valentino, YSL and so on, has turned in her catwalk pumps and is now soaking up the good life in Madrid.
Funny thing is, I let her know that later that evening I would be attending a DKNY Men’s fragrance party at the Rivington Hotel in honor of her ex-husband the male Giselle, Mark Vanderloo. The party was very chic thanks to PR guru Deborah Hughes. As we sipped cocktails and took in the city views at the penthouse, I couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous Eric Mabius, and Blake Lively, among party-goers.
Later, I jetted up to the Bourgeois Pig to celebrate the coming of age of another dear friend, Lilly Chu of Yard. She was surrounded by her charming friends and family, making the party very intimate and celebratory! HAPPY B-Day EVERYBODY!!!!

All About Eliza

Eliza @ Select is MTC Casting’s face of the season. The fierce “It” model arrived in NYC direct from London this past Fashion Week serving top model on the catwalk; we were very excited to work with her! She opened Custo Barcelona and followed Chanel Iman in Akiko Ogawa. Eliza will also be gracing the cover of Italian Vogue next month!

Why we love her: Eliza possesses a badass rocker underground appeal, which translates well with trends on the runway. Aside from her beauty, she is a total professional and a pleasure to work with. We hope to see her back in the states soon!

Illusions of Grandeur

Looking at the collections in New York, London, and now Milan, we have been marveling at all the beautiful clothing. However, I can’t help but think, who is going to wear this? Not because it is outlandish or over the top, but simply because it is too expensive.

This weekend, I had a chance to visit a few boutiques and noticed what a ghost town the designer shops have become (Yet I can barely stomach waiting in the Barney’s warehouse sale line) As shop stylist are being laid off all over, it seems as though designers have not been halted or inspired by the times. Who can afford a 20K jacket right now? (who can even afford a 1K one at that?) Where is the wearable, more affordable clothing that is going to let retailers bounce back?

Being in this industry, I love high fashion, but in order for all of us to keep doing what we love, we will all have to make adjustments and adhere to what the customer is going to buy. This may be the time to de-throne the Balenciaga’s and Dolce’s (who are still sending 30K dollar dresses down the runway, who my inside sources tell me do not even sell at Barneys) and make way for smaller, more business-minded designers who have a better sense of reality.

Bohemian Luxe!

Over-the-top designer Custo Barcelona was resisting recession sending luxurious gypsy chic-like designs down the runway this F/W season! Backstage at the Promenade was a modelizers heaven with a bevy of gorgeous gals and hot boys ready to parade the eccentric garments. Renowned models such as Ikeleine, Erin, and newcomer Tao all walked in the smooth running show. It was a bittersweet end to our fashion week at MTC! Styling by Bernat Buscato.

Julian Louie's Sophomore Collection

Our sister company, Mau-Mau Studios, produced the Julian Louie F/W09 show on Thursday at Drive-In Studios. Below is the finally run through!

Sophie Theallet Gets Personal About Casting

Sophie Theallet With A Navajo Edge!

Sophie Theallet brought her French sass and feminine ways to fashion week this season while impressing show-goers and fashionistas alike with her collection, inspired by Native Americans and a dream she once had. The models, clad in silk and velvet, rich colored dresses, wore moccasin inspired boots and dramatically sauntered down the runway. In attendance was Kanye West, along with all the important editors (Carine Roitfeld, Andre Leon Talley), journalist (Suzy Menkes), buyers, etc! The casting for the show was very intensive in order to find the right look. The end result was a diverse, feminine, sultry group. Jay @ Code closed the show with a dramatic performance that gave us chills!

Akiko Ogawa ROCKS Bryant Park!

The Akiko Ogawa show rocked the Bryant Park tents last night. The stunning runway diva Chanel Iman opened and closed the co-ed show, where the lineup was carefully selected and full of feminine, youthful women and androgynous men. The designs are very downtown chic with a modern rock & roll edge. The collection included gorgeous woven and ombre-dyed jackets with a jagged cut out asymmetrical design at the bottom. There were satin jodfers matched with 7” platform leather belted boots with mirrored heels and topped off with a high waisted darted and well-tailored blouse. The styling was outstanding thanks to the brilliant Patti Wilson. Also the make up and hair were beyond chic thanks to Peter Grey and Kabuki. The gracious designer, Akiko Ogawa, was all smiles throughout the show (and so were we thanks to no model drama!).

Marc Bouwer Glams It Up For F/W09!

Marc Bouwer uses technology to showcase his glamorous collection with a virtual show online. The shoot took place Friday February 13 @ his lofty penthouse studio in Chelsea. With short notice from our sister company Mau Mau Studios (who Produced the show) we were signed on to find the glamazon who would bring Marc's collection to life. When Monique @ Muse walked through the doors for a go see, she sashayed down the runway in Marc’s gowns and we knew right then and there that she was the perfect girl! The collection is full of 1940’s glamour, taffeta, ruffles, warm hues and a saucy hint of bright neon’s (like the ultra cute pink with iridescent blue faux fur matched with a blue plunging neckline cocktail dress). The designer is a master at sheering and draping. Slipping into any of Marc's dresses will have you ready for the Red carpet and feeling FABULOUS!
The collection can be viewed @ marcbouwer.com

Bryant Park is Valentine to NYC Fashionistas

This Valentines Day, forget the chocolate's, NYC fashionistas attend the Bryant Park tents, as the 2nd day of fashion week sends more amazing trends down the runways. Eric Kim, designer of Monarchy, has always focused on the construction of his garments and gets much of his inspiration from architecture. As I watched his Fall 09 collection come down the runway, it was apparent how much time went into these detailed and structured garments. Monarchy’s collection had equestrian and military inspiration. There were a few edgy pieces including the leather jackets, which had an immense amount of zipper detailing and asymmetrical lines. Eric also included some fantastic capes, which had beautiful draping that were just gliding off the model’s bodies. The guys were fully equipped with their riding boots and well-tailored military jackets. And as for Eric Kim, he was relaxed and ready to deliver his collection to NYC!

DAVID DELFIN SETS THE TONE FOR FASHION

David Delfin Fashion Show

Eyebeam was the place to be today as this first day of fashion week kicks off. David DelFin from Madrid premiered his Fall 09 collection today in Chelsea and it was a hit. He really nailed his collection down to every detail. He played with fabrics and textures and each look was completed with Doc Martins for the men and Loubatin’s for the ladies. The collection was filled with different hues of black and white and some pieces wit a pop of red. David was very innovative and is definitely a designer to keep your eyes on. Some statement pieces were see through stripe leggings, pants and a pencil skirt. He also glammed it up with a men’s sequin blazer and a gorgeous black sequin evening dress during the finale. All of David’s’ hard work really paid off because he had an amazing collection and this was truly the right way to kick off fashion week. And of course lets not forget the Fabulous lineUp of gorgeous moddels thanks to MTC!

Fashion Week Starts a Day Early!

Jillian Lewis debuted her fall ‘09 collection today at the Tela Design Studio. Most of the models showed up on time, but no thanks to Calvin Klein holding girls hostage @ his casting, an hour until the presentation we were still chasing down 2 girls (who later were grabbed by their hair and were rushed through hair and makeup!) The Tela Design studio was the perfect space for an intimate viewing of Jillian’s collection. Guests sipped mimosas, chowed on cucumber sandwiches and brownies while mingling around the industrial themed presentation. The one stand out piece of the collection was a black pleated coat with Victorian detail, FABULOUS! And just like the rest of the clothes that Jillian designs, it was impeccably made. Kudos to Jillan, what a great start to Fall Fashion Week!

Reality Bites (NYC)!

Move over, Reality show designer is about get her piece of the pie!
We just signed on to do the casting for the Jillian Lewis
presentation(you know the only gal on season 4 of Project Runway with a real future in fashion). I’ve got to say that I love the way this young designer has handled the attention brought forth by the show, while many of the previous contestants fell off the face of the planet or are
using their 15min of fame to sell it till it stinks. Jillian strikes me
as a well rounded, educated designer who’s objective is to deliver
beautifully woven knits and well constructed garments that make a woman
feel gorgeous!

Elite has a Shindig at Saks

Amidst all the hard work to get ready for Fashion Week, people are taking time out of their busy schedules to celebrate and promote keeping New York fashion fabulous! The other night, I attended the Elite and Saks Fifth Avenue party for Rag and Bone and Vena Cava at the flagship Saks on 5th. It was a fun, “sceney” event filled with models, agents, designers, etc. The space was hardly big enough for everyone, although the music was great (Stephanie stepped off the runway for a minute to show of her talents on the turntables and rocked the house with fresh grooves) and the drinks poured freely (minus running out of Grey Goose replaced with white wine). Mingling with everyone, I barely recognized Coco Rocha with her new red tresses. LOVED IT! All in all, it was an enjoyable time and a good start to the F/W fashion season.

"ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST"

With the economy crisis, everyone is effected, especially the multi-billion dollar fashion industry (including a designer friend of ours who had the shaggy carpet of investors pulled out from under him and had to cancel his show). With Fashion Week just around the corner, many prominent designers are cutting back on expenses and presenting in alternate spaces. Venues at the Bryant
Park
tents cost between $25,000 and $50,000, plus there is the cost of models, invitations, show producers, etc. Renowned designers Betsey Johnson, Donna Karen, and Vera Wang opted to forgo their lavish runway productions at Bryant Park this season. Marc Jacobs cut his show guest list by nearly half and cancelled his fabulous Fashion Week after-party.

While most are slashing their budgets, young talent this season may reap the benefits. Retailers will be hunting for new and fresh styles that have the potential to bring customers back into stores!

Color Me Custo

We are thrilled to be casting again for Custo Barcelona!! The Spanish label was created in the 1980s after brothers Custo and David Dalmau, went on a round-the-world motorcycle trip and came back impressed by the Califonia lifestyle. Influenced by the “psychedelic surf wear” the collection is infused with bright colors and unique illustrations. Custo Barcelona truly stands out with an individual voice that has yet to be equaled.

Llegaron "Los Delfines"

We are very happy to say that we are casting for the David Delfin runway show for F/W 09. The Spanish fashion house is invading NYC with its underground armada like iconic model Eleonora Bose, photographer Gorka Postigo, and sound specialist Diego Postigo. The surrealist David Delfin with his sinister yet polished designs, will show his interpretation of fashion for the first time in NYC this season. With his androgynous, deconstructed apparel, he also displays powerful messages through blurring the lines of fashion and art.

Sophie Theallet

I am very excited to announce that we will be casting for Sophie Theallet’s F/W09 runway. I had the pleasure of meeting the talented, charismatic designer, who for 10 years worked as first assistant to the Godfather of design, Azzedine Alaia. After visiting her studio and viewing her collection up close, I can only tell you that it is beautiful, refined, and distinctive, mirroring the designer herself. With a front row of major fashion players, this is definitely a show not to be missed.

Fabulous City?

So many things have been said about the MTV show, “The City” since the Hills spin-off arrived in its mini skirt and Jimmy Choos to the JFK airport. Wasn’t Whitney the girl on the Hills who wanted to keep her life private and actually be taken seriously in the Fashion Industry? Well, it seems she has traded her name for a chance at 15 minute of NY stardom.
When I think of Whitney and fashion, the only thing that comes to mind is _____? Shows like these are exposing the fashion industry in distorted ways while making NYC seem like one big Meat Packing District where everyone effortlessly lives in high rises, wears high heels, and works in high-end fashion! Dream on!...DVF...WHY?
